Dr. Christina Hobbs
Dr. Christina Hobbs has been a resident of Union City, Georgia for the past 20 years. She is a committed, results-driven business professional currently serving the City of Union City as Mayor Pro Tem/City Councilmember and Vice President of the not-for-profit arm of the Union City Housing Authority, Union City Housing Authority Development, Inc. She has served as a member of the Stakeholders Committee for the Union City Comprehensive Plan Update. She is the former Vice Chairperson of the Union City Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
Dr. Hobbs has recently retired from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. She worked with the University System for 23 years. She enjoyed working in a diversity initiative with entrepreneurs and business leaders to help them secure government contracts. She also worked with prime construction management firms to secure opportunities for subcontractors. She was responsible for teaching presidents, chief business officers, facilities directors, and procurement directors the economics of supplier diversity via presentations to groups as well as having created a supplier diversity conference which she served as founding chair until her retirement.
Her tenure in higher education includes working with the University of California, Los Angeles and Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to that time, she worked in academic healthcare, and international banking.
Dr. Hobbs earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) – Educational Leadership from Argosy University in Atlanta. Her area of research was the effect of academic advisement on the persistence decision of the first-generation college student. She is a certified literacy volunteer, a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and working toward a certification in financial literacy.
Dr. Hobbs is currently the City Council liaison to the Union City Department of Community Development. This department is crucial to the City’s approach to addressing community and regional development concerns in growth management, environmental quality, and planning implementation.
She also currently serves as a substitute teacher for the Fulton County School System. Her assignments include elementary through high school. The school system is the fourth largest in the State of Georgia.
