“Train as if your life depends on it… because it does”

Training Division

The Training Division is headed by our Training Officer who is tasked with coordinating Training - C Shiftdaily/weekly department drills and ongoing officer training as it relates to fire suppression. The Training Division is responsible for providing training based on local, State, and Federal guidelines from the Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate level through Paramedic level. It is our goal to provide appropriate training to our personnel and measure competency on a regular basis.

The Division provides guidelines and study materials to the shift officer to conduct the training evolutions. To remain compliant with Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council, core objectives are evaluated on an annual basis. These are specifically recognized tasks that all firefighters throughout the United States are required to perform. Verification of these skills is tested annually and consists of manipulative skills stations.

The Division assembles the training plans utilizing both internal as well as external Training - C Shiftinstructors to provide the highest quality training for its personnel. Examples of fire/rescue training include:

• Fire suppression
• Ventilation
• SCBA drills
• Water rescue
• Vehicle extrication
• Specialized rescue practices
• Hose deployment and advancement
• Hazardous material response
• Pump operations and hydraulics are meticulously practiced and revised

In addition to the previously mentioned tasks, the Division is charged with overseeing the continuing education courses, which are essential to maintaining the EMS Division. Training is provided on a variety of trauma-related topics. Completion of certification programs such as ACLS, PALS/PEPP, PHTLS, and National Registry Refresher programs are also coordinated through this division.
