Mission
To provide the City with professional, highly trained and effective police officers. Our goal is to furnish a disciplined environment conducive to learning and to provide professional instructors to prepare our police officers to meet the public service and public safety needs.
The Training Division is responsible for the training of all police officers and has a staff of 11 instructors certified through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST). These instructors possess specialized instructor certificates and are capable of instructing a range of topics including criminal law, defensive tactics, firearms, less lethal applications, and emergency vehicle operations.
In addition to providing 40 hours of mandated in-service training for the Department, the Training Division also provides in-service and specialized training to surrounding law enforcement agencies. It provides an average of 2000 contact hours of training to its officers each year. This training includes legal updates, criminal procedure, driving, defensive tactics, and high liability training such as tactical operations, firearms, and high energy breaching using explosive charges.
